My name is Sherlynne Overby and I am the President/Owner of Tinker Town Learn & Play Center, Inc. I am originally from California, and moved to Las Vegas in the early 80’s. I am the second oldest of 9 siblings. Being from a big family, I have the natural instinct to take care of people. I began in the childcare field when I was 17 and worked with special needs children. I continued to work in the child care field after I had my daughter. I started in the classroom as a 4’s teacher and by the end of my first year, I was in the Office. I enjoyed being in the classroom with the children, but enjoyed helping them and their parents work on problems better. I loved when the children were not having a good day, or had a disagreement, then I could fix it and make it better. That was just the BEST feeling ever.
I worked in child care centers for a while until my second child was about 2 years old. I then began an in-home childcare out of my house in California and only closed when I moved to Las Vegas. After moving here, I knew that I wanted to get back into the childcare field again. I now had 2 children that I couldn’t part with so I began working at their child care center. Not long after, I began to go to college to further my education in early childhood education. When I received my credentials, I became a Director. I just loved being able to help children and their families on a daily basis. As my children grew up, I had tried other fields of work, but always came back to childcare. I had a blast being a Director and decided in 2000 that I would like to own my own childcare.
February 5, 2001, I opened Tinker Town Learn & Play Center, Inc. at Bonanza. I was the Director and was just happy to have a place that I could call my own. In Spring of 2003, I opened my second location at Pecos and in Summer 2007 I opened my third location at Smoke Ranch. I have strived to make my schools feel like a second home for the children. I enjoy watching the children grow and be a large part of the early part of their life. Nothing fills my heart more than the hug of a child.
